ZHA produced the Spaceport Visioning Study to identify the implications of deploying horizontal launch-assist systems at ground-based Spaceport facilities. The systems studied included: MagLifter and Star Tram, which use superconducting magnetic levitation technologies to propel space vehicles into Low Earth Orbit, at a lower cost per pound than current launch systems.
This conceptual study examined requirements for establishing a facilities program for ground-based systems needed to support MagLifter and Star Tram. The product included identification and description of required facilities, ground flow analysis, conceptual facility site plans and computer-generated renderings of ground-based facilities.
